There are many levels of disaster recovery:
Weekly Physical Dumps, offloaded to a remote site
Asynchronously duplicated data that is only a few seconds ‘behind’ the live data.
Synchronously duplicated data that is mirrored offsite.
In addition, use a system such as GDPS to reach high availability.
Disaster recovery and high availability are two different goals, so it’s necessary to be aware of the differences and plan appropriately.
All this is, unfortunately, not free
but
one must ask how high is the cost of not being able to do business for a day.?
Or worse: losing your data and having to restore data that is one week old. It does happen.
Be prepared. It’s your business.
